Shop Philosophy

Welcome to Biciclette Italiane, a small boutique bike shop nestled inside Castle Hill Specialized Fitness gym, located in downtown Austin, TX.

As our name indicates we specialize in Italian road bikes built to order with Italian components. Unlike most bikes sold these day, that come pre-assembled in a box directly from the manufacturer with component selections that maximize their profit, we like to order frames and component groups that best reflect the riding style, personality and physiological characteristics of our customers. While our owner is - you guessed it - Italian, we consider "Italian" not just our Made in Italy Pinarello road bikes, but also other traditionally designed bikes that are blessed with classic "Italian" ride qualities.

In addition to road bikes, we also custom build fixed gear bikes for commuting and touring, and quality mountain bikes using Salsa frames

Finally we retail cycling components and provide excellent service work by appointment.

What is a Holistic Bike Fit?

Bike fit is the process by which the relationship between the rider and his/her bicycle is systematically optimized to allow the rider to most productively apply his/her physical and mental attributes to the sport of cycling.

A bike fit can not be reduced to the simplistic computation of some obscure algorithm like it is often proposed in the website of internet retailers whose focus is to expedite the sales cycle. by contrast a holistic bike fit is necessarily a multi-dimensional endeavor in which the many different bicycle parameters are explored and manipulated to produce a "sweet spot" in which the rider takes full advantage of his/her assets. Because cycling is physical and real, observation and experimentation are necessary parts of the fit process. Best fit is achieved by "successive approximations" and the result is "dynamic". This means that the successful fit is also able to change over time in synchronicity with the rider's evolving abilities.

A holistic bike fit takes a significant amount of time and requires the use of meaningful analysis tools together with reasoning and judgment. The bike fit is the most important part of your bicycle purchase and should involve both an indoor measurement session and an outdoor test ride session. Expect to get the most benefits from two sessions (indoor/outdoor) of 1hr to 1.5hr each.
